Business Coaching or Business Mentoring: Which Do You Need?

Business owners often use the two terms interchangeably. We don't, because they solve different problems.

Business coaching is focused and time-bound. We work with you on specific skills or goals, usually over a relatively short period, to deliver a measurable improvement in performance.

Business mentoring is broader and longer-term. Your mentor becomes what we describe as an honest, trusted but unreasonable friend: someone who understands your position, acts as a sounding board, and challenges your thinking across the whole business rather than one corner of it.

You'd probably benefit from one or the other if:

  • You can't step back from the day-to-day long enough to work on the business
  • You're stuck on a growth, people or investment decision and keep deferring it
  • There's nobody inside the business you can be completely honest with
