Will Your Business Evolve in 2020?

What Will The New Year Hold For You?

Now the New Year is upon us, owners of large and small businesses may be wondering what the next year will hold.  The country leaving the EU is now fixed on the horizon which may also bring some uncertainty (or some long awaited certainty?!)

Maybe thoughts such as how am I going to grow my business, sell my business, deal with those staffing issues, stop working ridiculous hours, have more time with my family or start new hobbies / fitness regimes.

As the owner you may be stuck in a rut with no one to turn to and you could do with a sounding board, someone to bounce ideas off, apart from your partner who maybe gets fed up with the amount of time you spend in the business.

These are just some of the reasons why more and more business owners are using Business Mentors for support, help and guidance.

Advantages of a Business Mentor

Having a UK Business Mentor can provide you with many advantages. “Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.” A Business Mentor can help to shorten your learning curve, open your mind to new ideas and possibilities, identify opportunities and be there with you on the business growth journey. It is a relationship that normally lasts for years but, can also be for just a few months.

A Business Mentor’s role is to firstly understand you and your business and discuss/help you formulate your plans/objectives/aspirations for the future. The Business Mentor will coach, train, advise and guide (these last two are what separates a Mentor from a Business Coach). Sometimes they may ask you difficult questions, challenge your thinking and even tell you things you don’t want to hear but ultimately are there to help you. This gives you an indication of why we sometimes describe ourselves as the business owner’s ‘Unreasonable friend’!

A Business Mentor is someone you’ll share a lot with, and it can become a close relationship and so we like to make sure that we match you with someone you’ll get along with and therefore, our selection process is very rigid. We will only put you in front of an experienced personable mentor.

We all are mentors, gurus, teachers, advisors in some way… to our children, or maybe your best friend is always asking your opinion about his love life, your sister needs support with her rebellious teenage daughter. We all, at some point, see the benefit of the other person’s opinion (even if we don’t always agree with it!) and maybe it’s your turn to get some advice and help rather than giving it all the time?

So, make one of your New Year’s resolutions taking up our offer of a complimentary mentoring session. That’s exactly what Richard did in December and this is what he had to say:

Testimonial from Pharian – IT Services and Support, Crawley

I met Joe Hinton at an “Effective Tools to Grow Your Business” seminar that the UK Business Mentoring team were hosting in association with our bank Santander. I’d been invited by the bank’s Small Business Advisor, so thought I’d pop along to see what this was about. I must admit when I got to the venue and saw that it was hosted by a business mentoring company I was a bit sceptical but I decided to stick around for a bit to see what was on offer. I’m very glad I did. Joe’s presentation was really informative. He has a relaxed, intelligent style and comes across as really knowing his stuff.

It wasn’t one of those talks where much is hinted at but nothing is given, he was very open and generous with his knowledge and advice. He got the whole audience to engage and interact with a great balance of challenge and inclusion. At the end of the seminar I could have left it there with a whole bag of tips and ideas that were really pertinent to our current business situation. I decided, however, to take Joe up on his offer of a free 1-to-1 mentoring session as I really did trust him.

Last week Joe came to visit me in my office, and I can honestly say that this was a most productive two hours. Once again Joe did not hold back with his knowledge and there was never a hint of a hard sell. We are at a pivotal stage in our business and are about to employ our first apprentice, and Joe’s ability to cut through the noise and get us to focus on core areas to drive and grow our business is going to be invaluable I believe. Just being able to talk things through with someone of Joe’s experience is a massive advantage. Moving forward I can most definitely see us using UK Business Mentoring and Joe’s services to help us focus and grow. It will be money well spent.
